Jack Westall

May 22, 1921 — December 9, 2020

Jack S. Westall, age 99, of Columbus, Ohio, born May 22, 1921 passed away on December 9, 2020 at Friendship Village of Dublin.  Jack graduated from Central H.S. and then attended U. of Tampa on a baseball scholarship. Jack began serving in the National Guard in 1935, when he was 14 years old.  He misrepresented his age so he could join the active duty army in 1940.  His five years of service to our country included stateside work, as well as time in the Pacific and Europe.  Jack dedicated his career to the Veterans Administration from 1946-1981.  He culminated his time with the VA as the Director of the Bay Pines Medical Center from 1979-81.  While residing in Florida, he was also an active member of the Rotary Club of Seminole for eight years. There were no strangers to Jack. He had a meaningful interaction with everyone that he encountered and would greet them by name the next time paths crossed. He was always a delight to be with and was so loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.   Jack was active and engaging until the day he was diagnosed with Covid-19 and quickly passed.  He was making gifts to take around to the staff and workers of Friendship Village of Dublin hours before he passed away.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife Wanda, who he was married to for 77 years; parents, Frank and Lucille Westall; brother Gene Westall who was serving in the Army Air Force when his plane crashed near Dunkirk, France in 1944.

Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Lyle Ritze; 3 grandchildren, Mike (Molly ) Ritze, Becka (Bill) Mayr, and Eric (Lydia) Ritze; 8 great-grandchildren, Sam Ritze, Jack Mayr, Joe Ritze, Maddy Mayr, Lucy Ritze, Porter Ritze, Miles Ritze and Calvin Ritze.

Jack joined Wanda in the Green Lawn Cemetery Chapel, on December 17th, with only immediate family present.  There will be a celebration of life, post COVID-19. Arrangements are through GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Columbus Ohio.
