Betty Kozman Brown

July 20, 1928 — April 16, 2021

Betty Jane Kozman-Brown passed away peacefully with her children and grandchildren by her side on April 16, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born in Piqua, OH on July 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Dorothy Bryant Anderson and Henry Herbert Bryant. Betty was preceded in death by her first husband John Kozman (1982) and second husband Gerald Brown (2016), her grandson Patrick Fox (2011), her brothers John and Richard Bryant and her sisters Mary Riley and Marjorie Wolfe. She is survived by her son David J. Kozman (Helen) and daughter Nancy Fox (Peter), and her grandchildren Coleen Newkirk (Jim), David P. Kozman (Stephanie), Elizabeth Granja (Eduardo), Christina Mason (Chris), Mary Pierce (Mike), great grandchildren Andrew, Nicholas, and Mallory Kozman, and Eduardo, Marcos, and Sebastian Granja, baby girl Pierce due in June and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sister, Julia Lutz Weaver and sister-in-law ZeZe Bryant.

Throughout her life, she worked to support her family. She had a career in the Columbus School System for more than 30 years. From there, she worked part-time at Anthony Thomas Candy for many years. She lived with Nancy and Peter in Wilmington, Ohio where she enjoyed the farm animals, her cats, and outdoors in general. She loved traveling and doing family research and genealogy.

Her life philosophy of living in the moment and staying active was her formula for a long and happy life. Active to the very day she passed away, she left this earth on her own terms. Our beautiful mother (Meme) lived her life to the fullest to the very end. She was giving, caring, and kind to family and strangers alike. She was a blessing in all our lives. A child of the Great Depression, she lived her life in the service of her family and others, lifting all of us up along the way. The work she did and the sacrifices she made elevated us all. She was a loving mother and grandmother and friend, and she led by example for all of us. We will miss her smile, energy, advice, and her positive "we're going to be okay" approach to life. Her spirit is free and at peace now; go live in the moment in Heaven.

At family's request, Betty's funeral mass will be private due to COVID concerns.  She will be interred next to John at St. Joseph Cemetery in Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to an animal rescue shelter (she loved her cats) or to a charity of your choice.
