Timothy "Tim" Cordle, age 75, passed away on May 21, 2025. Born on July 17, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, Tim dedicated his life to serving others with commitment and bravery.
He was a 1967 graduate of Marion-Franklin High School and was drafted into the United States Army, in January of 1969. Tim proudly served his country during the Vietnam War which included one year (1969-1970) in Vietnam prior to his honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant, in March of 1971. Over the years he fostered connections with fellow veterans of the 5th Battalion 60th Infantry 9th Infantry Division and as a member of the Pickerington American Legion post # 0283 and the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Lockbourne post # 3426.
Tim studied at Columbus State Community College, earning an associate’s degree in Fire Science. Following in his father's footsteps, Tim was the second of four generations of Cordle firefighters. His career as a firefighter with the City of Columbus spanned an impressive 33 years. With his skills, dedication and unwavering spirit in the face of challenges, Tim achieved the rank of Lieutenant.
Outside of being a firefighter Tim was a lover of the great outdoors, often fishing at Lake Erie or playing softball with his fellow firefighters in the City of Columbus League. He had a passion for watching baseball and football games, enjoyed immersing himself in western films, and had a deep appreciation for history. He also loved grilling, filled with laughter, delicious food, and cherished memories.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Myrtle Cordle; his brother, Freddie Cordle; sister in-law Linda Cordle and great nephew, Landon Cordle. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Carolyn Cordle; his two devoted sons, Jeff (Kelly) Cordle and Leigh (Cara) Cordle; grandchildren, Tristan, Caleb, and Farrah Cordle; brother Terry (Vicki) Cordle; sister, Jane (Hugo) D'Amico, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tim Cordle will be remembered not only for his remarkable contributions to his community as a firefighter and to his country as a veteran, but also as a man whose love for nature, humor, and kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
