Stanley Alcorn

Stanley Sylvester Alcorn, 89, of Columbus, Ohio was called into His eternal glory on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Stanley was born March 14, 1925, in Irvine, KY to the late Archie and Leota (Gray) Alcorn. Stanley retired from Ohio State University Printing Services and enjoyed an active post-retirement career in Lawn Service with his loyal friend Hugh Davis through 2013. He was a faithful member of the South Columbus Freewill Baptist Church for over 20 years. Stanley was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army's 89th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron 9th Armed Division in battle campaigns in Europe from 1943 - 1945. He was awarded two bronze stars, good conduct, and victory medals. He will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by former wife and friend Anna Carroll, stepson Richie Winters, sisters Edna Wampler and Ruby Zelik, and siblings-in-laws Ralph Wampler, Homer Norvell, and Connie Alcorn. He is survived by his loving wife Norma Jane of 22 years; children Tony (Paula) Alcorn Sproles of Carlisle, Ohio, Clemma (Ralph) Snider of Lexington, KY, Deborah (Michael) Myers of Indianapolis, IN, Carolyn Schmidt of Columbus, OH, and Anna (Jerry) Brisker of Lebanon, OH; stepchildren Diane (Wesley) Johnson of Wooster, OH, and Carol Watson of Columbus, OH; siblings Ray Alcorn, Jenny Norvell, Sheila Walker, and Rhonda Thacker; 16 grandchildren Cindy, Sandra, Frances, Cynthia, Michele, Aaron, Abby, Amanda, Jeremy, Megan, Andrew, Richard, Melissa, Elizabeth, John and Lillian; 14 great grandchildren, and 27 nephews and nieces. The family will receive visitors Friday, May 2, 2014 from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. until time of service at 6:30 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Rev. Tim Stevens officiating assisted by Rev. Richard Hensley. Graveside Service Saturday 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at Marion Cemetery, 620 Delaware Ave., Marion Ohio 43302.
