Patricia Duerler

Patricia Ann Duerler, 80, wife of James John Duerler and mother of Susan (Brian) Cook, Julie (Chris) Glista and Stephen (Venus) Duerler, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving Carolyn's Cottage family, her family, and dear friends. Patty was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Nugen, sister, Gladys (Carolyn) Melsen, and brother, David J. Brogan. 

Patty was a highly respected retired schoolteacher at Columbus City Schools. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from The Ohio State University. Patty's colleagues and students remember her as an inspiring, creative, and hard-working educator who won the prestigious Good Apple Award in 2000. Patty believed in everyone. She empowered hundreds of students throughout her teaching career at Rosemont, Georgian Heights and Eakin Elementary Schools. 

Most important to Patty was sharing the love of Jesus Christ. She had a light that made everyone feel valued for who they are. Patty often said, Love Never Fails. For several years she created curricula for Christian Services International and led ministry teams in Haiti, Jamaica, and Ireland. She also served at Livingston Methodist Church in the children's ministry. Her happiness was felt by all. 

Patty loved her family, as expressed by her enduring love for James, her husband of 58 years. Patty loved the simple life they shared together. Patty's children (Susan, Julie, and Stephen), grandchildren (Justin, Alec, Ella, and Caroline), and great grandchildren (Elijah and Charlotte) delighted in her joyful sense of humor and positivity and always felt loved and empowered by her presence. 

Patty's family and friends will celebrate her life on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, with visitation from 2 - 4 p.m., with Celebration of Life Service to follow at 4 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Columbus, Ohio 43207, with Rev. Patricia Iddings officiating.
