Orlando M. Diaz, 66, of Pickerington, Ohio, passed away on July 31, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend. He died surrounded by family, love, and memories that reflect a remarkable life devoted to service, laughter, and unwavering love.
Orlando met the love of his life, Janice, while both were stationed as Hospital Corpsmen in Iwakuni, Japan, with the U.S. Navy. It was the beginning of a bond that would grow over more than 40 years of marriage, filled with deep devotion, partnership, and the joy of raising their two beloved children, Alex and Jodi.
Following his time in the Navy, Orlando served with distinction in the U.S. Marines, participating in air and sea rescue operations to save the lives of others in the open water. After his military service, he worked at The Ohio State University Hospital as a surgical operating room technician. He then continued to serve his country and community through a long and dedicated 30+ year career with the United States Postal Service.
A proud New Yorker at heart, Orlando had an infectious love for the NY Giants and the Mets. He was a man of music, rhythm, and spirit—always ready to share a smile, a story, or a laugh. And if there was banana and wafer pudding on the table, you could count on him to be first in line.
Orlando will be remembered most for his extraordinary generosity—he never met a stranger—and for his sharp wit, charm, and deeply rooted love for his family. He was the kind of man who made every room brighter, every story better, and every life he touched more joyful.
Orlando is lovingly remembered by his wife, Janice Diaz; their son, Alex (Nicole)Diaz; daughter, Jodi (Kyle) Diaz-Browning; and his cherished grandchildren: Morgan, Chloe, Dillon, Viviana, Felix, his sister Mary, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martina Diaz; his father, Orlando Diaz Sr.; and his brother, George Diaz.
Family will receive friends on Friday, August 8, 2025, beginning at 12:30 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME 1351 S. High St., Columbus, OH 43207 with Pastor Calvin Green officiating. Burial with military honors to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43213.
