August 30, 1941 — May 17, 2025

John A. “Jack” Ashcraft Jr., age 83, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, after a brief illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Ashcraft; his son, Tony; daughter and son-in-law, Meghan and Ryan Gregg; grandson, Brenden Gregg; and his beloved dog, Bobby Jones. Jack is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of nearly 33 years, Nora. He is also survived by his daughter, Vicki (Jeff) Spires, and his son, Aaron (Paula) Fleming; grandchildren, Dakota (Chelsea) Spires, Devyn(Ben) Diamond, and Kamryn Gregg; and great-grandchildren, Leo and Alex Gregg, and Nora Gail Diamond. He leaves behind his sisters and sister-in-law, Norma Green, Nancy Fravel, and Debbie Popp; his special cousin, Don (Julie) Reynolds. Jack will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend Dave Williams.

Jack retired from Sears as a washer and dryer repairman after becoming a double amputee. Despite this, he continued to live an active and inspiring life—playing golf (even achieving a hole-in-one!) and installing flooring well into his later years. Attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church and member of Pataskala Masonic Lodge No. 404 F&AM. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Jack was an avid golfer who drew admiration looks from fellow players on the course. He was also a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Ohio State Buckeyes. In his younger years, Jack owned and bred German Shepherd show dogs. In more recent years, he loved chatting on the phone with family and friends and especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jack was a man of great strength and humor, even in the face of life’s many hardships. His resilience, kindness, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
