James “Jim” Arthur Barton, age 60, passed away on July 15, 2025. He was born on June 11, 1965, in Columbus, Ohio, and was a proud graduate of Northland High School, Class of 1983.
Jim had an incredible gift for lifting spirits—his great sense of humor and infectious smile could brighten even the darkest day. His love for family and friends was unwavering and deeply felt by all who knew him.
One of Jim’s greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren, especially cheering them on from the sidelines of their baseball and softball games. He created countless cherished memories with his family, including the unforgettable year they raised a Thanksgiving turkey who earned a permanent spot in the family and was affectionately named “Tombo.”
Jim shared a special bond with his daughter, Brandi, teaching her practical skills like changing a tire, riding a horse, and baiting a fishhook. He also had a mischievous side—particularly when it came to his daughter's pet snakes, which he playfully used to tease his mom. He had a love for animals, including a fondness for pink flamingos.
Jim had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Whether fishing, mushroom hunting, or helping with landscaping at the campgrounds, nature was his happy place. When not outside, he enjoyed playing games and spending quality time with loved ones.
Jim is preceded in death by his father Ronald Barton. He is survived by his daughter, Brandi (Kenny) Edwards; grandchildren; Kyla, Maddex, Kinley and Emma Edwards; his mother, Mary Barton and his brother, Ron T. (Jan) Barton.
Known for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need, Jim lived life with a sense of adventure and a carefree spirit that made him truly one of a kind. He will be missed by all who knew him.
