Gary Lee Younkin

Gary Lee Younkin, 78, of Groveport, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2025. He was born on March 2, 1947, the son of Warren and Doris Younkin. Gary lived a life characterized by service, both to his country and to those around him.

In his younger years, Gary had a passion for roller skating and achieved the distinction of becoming a national champion. During his teenage years, he developed a love for racing cars, often alongside his friend Burgess — a friendship that would last a lifetime.

After high school, Gary proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.

His time in service shaped not only his character, but also his deep commitment to taking care of others. For many years, Gary worked as a truck driver, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. Throughout his life, he exhibited an extraordinary spirit of helpfulness, always willing to lend a hand. Whether it was grocery shopping, assisting with cleaning, babysitting, fixing cars, or undertaking house projects, Gary was a source of support for everyone in his life. His enthusiasm for attending his grandkids' sports events was a testament to his love for family and his joyful participation in life’s everyday moments.

In addition to his hardworking nature, Gary had a lifelong passion for racing. He reveled in the thrill of the sport — whether he was behind the wheel himself, attending live events, or watching races on television. More than just a hobby, racing became a meaningful way for Gary to connect with friends and family, creating lasting memories and shared experiences that enriched his life.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Doris Younkin. He is survived by his beloved sons, Joe Younkin and Mike (Felisha) Younkin, and their mother, Patricia. Gary was a devoted and loving grandfather to his cherished grandkids, Devan (Alissa), Schuyler (Darcy Himes), Ella, Carter, Finn, Grant, Hudson, Isaiah and Julia;great-grandchildren, Ben and Barrett. He absolutely loved spoiling them. We used to joke, “Papa Gary strikes again!” whenever he showed up to a birthday or Christmas with the biggest present he could find at the store.

Gary will be remembered for his compassionate heart, his tireless efforts to help others, and his unwavering spirit. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, and the memories shared with his family and friends.

Family will receive friends, Wednesday, October 15, 2025, beginning at 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 South High St. Columbus, Ohio 43207, with Pastor Greg Cooper officiating.
