Eugene Athey

Eugene S. "Gene" Athey, age 86, of Columbus, passed away January 2, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. U.S. Army Veteran WWII. Member of American Legion Southway Post No. 144. Retired from Willamette Paper Company. He is preceded in death by grandson, Errol Reynolds; parents, John and Margaret Athey and nine siblings. Survived by wife of 63 1/2 years, Helen; children, Eugene Athey II., Cheryl L .Athey, Steven (Lori) Athey, Karen (Gene)Young, and Paula (Lee )Whitt; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation Sunday 1-4 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., where service will be held Monday 10 a.m., Chaplain LLoyd Markley officiating.
