Donald G. Wynkoop, age 88, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on March 29, 2023. Born on May 25, 1934, to John S. and Florence Faler Wynkoop. Don married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Girbert, his wife of 66 years. Don was veteran of U.S. Army. Graduate from Canal Winchester High School, Capital University, and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. Former teacher in Mentor, Ohio and Columbus Public Schools. Principal of Bexley High School and Director of The Ohio Association of Secondary School Administration.
Preceded in death by son, Steven Mark Wynkoop and daughter Cheryl Lynn Allen; sister, Doris Doran and her husband, Harry and daughter, Holly; brother, Jack Wynkoop and his wife, Ethel. In addition to his wife Shirley, Don is survived by grandchildren, Griffin (Caison) Moore, Will Wynkoop, Jaedon Nauriyal, and Maya Nauriyal; great-granddaughter, Margaret Elliot Moore; daughter-in-law, Cindy Wynkoop; son-in-law, Dr. Geoff Allen; brother, Bob Wynkoop and his wife, Sara, sister, Nancy Goss and her husband, Darv, brother-in-law, Fred Girbert and his wife, Sally, sister-in-law, Carolyn Girbert, many nieces and nephews.
Don dearly loved camping and traveling with his family. He was grateful for his many friends. Don enjoyed his volunteer work at the food pantry and Charity Newsies.
Family will receive friends, Tuesday, April 18, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church 2314 E. Main St., Bexley, Ohio 43209, with Pastor Tim Iseringhausen officiating. Private family graveside service and burial Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Lithopolis Cemetery, Lithopolis, Ohio. Arrangements with GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Columbus, Ohio 43207. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Don may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church or The Alzheimer's Association.
