Clyde Basil “Papaw” Friesland, 86, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, in Laredo, Texas.
Clyde was born in Bluff City, Tennessee, on February 12, 1938, to the late Basil and Margie Friesland. He started working at Franklin Printing Company right out of high school in 1957, then in 1977 he became the owner and worked there until he started trucking. His career as an owner/operator of a semi-truck started in 1992 and continued until the day he passed away. While driving all those years, he earned the National Safety Council Million Mile Safe Driver. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. He never met a stranger, and everyone knew him by his quirky grin and sense of humor.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Irene Friesland, one daughter, Marla Friesland, one son, Jeffrey (Angela) Friesland, grandchildren, Jessica (James) Friesland, Robert (Angie) Friesland, Jared (Shawnee) Eichenlaub, Darbi Dorst, Kristen (Josh) Friesland, Krystal (Gary) Garnhart; Great-Grandchildren, Joshua, Jaxson, Jayla, Jaina, Storie, George Albert, Monroe, bonus great-granddaughters Emma and Mikaela, sister-in-law, Lisa Friesland, daughter-in-loves, Vicki Friesland and Lorrie Listebarger, nephews Steven (Katrina) Poole, Keith Friesland; nieces Debbie (David) Fambrough, Elizabeth (John) Bumgardner; adopted red-headed son, Bryan (Becky) Parker, nieces and nephews in Texas, several great and great-great nieces and nephews, parents to grandchildren and great-grandchildren (Dan Eichenlaub and Josh Cook), extended family and a host of friends, especially his trucking buddies Steve, Jerry, Renae, and Mike down in Laredo, and his furry friend, Tiko.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; son Clyde “Joe” Friesland; sister Shirley Bernthold, brothers Paul, Hal, and Randy Friesland; mother-in-law, Dorothy Cowan, brother-in-law, Frankie Bernthold, nephew, Jason Bernthold, best friends, Ronald L. Baker, Bob Smith, and Larry Moore, and his furry friends, Nala and Molly.
