Joe D. Hollingsworth passed away on September 22, 2026, at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia, his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Bart Holmes, his son Evan, his grandchildren Elena and Alex Holmes, his sister Diane Humphrey and husband Bob, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Warren Hollingsworth and Alice Bowen. 

Born and raised in Lynn, IN, Joe spent his youth learning about the world in his parents' barber shop. He attended Ball State University and earned bachelor's degrees in Architecture and Science and Design. Following college, Joe established himself in Chicago and had an illustrious career at some of the largest architectural firms in the country. In 2004, Joe bravely created his own consulting firm and successfully ran it for the next 16 years before retiring. It is impossible to walk through the Chicago loop and not see his work on display at numerous high rises. 

After retiring Joe and Patricia moved to Santa Fe, NM where they spent 8 years enjoying the sunny weather, long walks with their dog, and helping with his neighborhood's architectural review board (albeit reluctantly). In the summer of 2026, Joe and Patricia relocated to Columbus OH to be closer to family and the restaurants and bars of German Village he enjoyed. 

Joe will be remembered as someone who never failed to plan ahead, took steps in great detail to make sure those close to him were taken care of, and cared deeply for those he loved. One of his philosophies in life was never to go too many days without petting a dog. His final wishes were to be cremated and celebrated privately with family.
